Notable

When is a rosé not a rosé? Meet this 100% Vinhão sparkler, one of the rare grapes with a red-fleshed interior. This champagne method sparkling wine spends very little time in contact with the skins, with most of the coppery magenta color being natural for this unusual grape. A special treat that is not commonly found in the U.S.

Sips & Scents

The aromas bring memories of a strawberry shortcake with whipped cream but the taste is a savory version of berries and cream with hints of baking spices and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. A fine tight sparkle coats the tongue leaving a tingling sensation with a crisp dry finish.

Perfect Matches

Light and simple is the way. Heavy dishes may overshadow this Portuguese gem. Simple grilled or pan-seared pork, chicken, or meatier white fish work well, or try it with a native dish, arroz de pato (duck rice). Long day? Pick up a grilled chicken sandwich, pop the bottle, and enjoy!

Hands Behind the Bubbles

Vasco Croft founded Aphros on the family estate after a life-changing encounter with a Buddhist monk, which he describes as a personal meeting with Dionysus. In 2003, he started the wine project in Casal do Paço, a semi-abandoned estate in his family since the 17th century. It is now a model ecological winery with forests home to wild boars, foxes, and eagles. The estate's commitment to biodynamic farming ensures harmony between soil, plants, animals, and human activity, producing wines that are part of Portugal's "Slow Wine Movement." Enjoy this unique and thoughtful creation!
