Bibi Graetz, Bollamatta
Grape Varietal: 100% Sangiovese
Dosage: Brut
Location: Tuscany, Italy
Quick Facts:
-
A unique and rare sparkling Sangiovese from Tuscany, a climate that is not typically suited for sparkling wine.
-
A fine stream of bubbles release the aromas of cherries, strawberries, a hint of citrus, and baked pastry.
-
The taste follows the nose; combined, they’re like a perfectly done homemade cherry pie fresh from the oven that’s cooled just enough to take a bite.
This dry, acidic sparkler is simply fun to drink. Ideal with a light pasta dish, or just kicking your shoes off, falling into your couch cushions and unwinding. A lively, crisp palate cleanser for before or after any meal, or with a setting sun and a good book.
Bibi Graetz has, quietly, and in a relatively short time, developed a cult following in Italy. He's a trained artist who once thought of opening a studio, but now the labels on the bottles are his canvas. Years ago, Bibi acquired a castle (how cool is that??) from his parents. There, without any formal wine training he now produces wines that have garnered a loyal following among serious collectors. Only 12,000 bottles are produced and most remain in Europe. By the way, “Bollamatta,” means “Crazy Bubbles”, Cin Cin!
