Notable

Pineau d’Aunis is a rare grape from the Loire Valley with a history of mistaken identity.

Sips & Scents

Originally confused with Pinot Noir, Pineau d’Aunis was even renamed Chenin Noir in the 19th century, before returning to its original name. It is a challenging grape to grow and requires careful attention in the vineyard. This rosé is bone-dry and bursting with aromas of red berries. On the palate, while notes of strawberries are present, they have a more savory character, along with a subtle peppery finish. A truly interesting wine that’s both refreshing and refined.

Perfect Matches

With its savory fruitiness, refreshing bubbles, and greater depth than your average rosé, there’s a wide range of possibilities to play with. Salty snacks and light creamy dishes are good options here. My pick, a charcuterie board, some creamy cheese and good conversation.

Hands Behind the Bubbles

Gaspard is a fun collaboration between an importer and a winemaker, both dedicated to producing naturally crafted, clean wines. Featuring the indigenous grape Pineau d’Aunis that came from 80-year-old vines. The grapes were handpicked, hand pressed, and the wine was aged for 36 months without any added sugar. This was crafted with a respect for both nature and budgets. “Bulles” means bubbles, and with its unusual grape variety, and vibrant characteristics, Gaspard is truly a fun bottle of bubbles to enjoy. Cheers!
